Languedoc-Roussillon, located in the south of France, is a wine region rich in history and diversity. Bathed in Mediterranean sunshine, the region enjoys a hot and dry climate, along with a wide variety of soils, making it an ideal terroir for viticulture.

Wines from Languedoc-Roussillon are renowned for their bold character, richness, and authenticity. The region produces a wide range of wines, from full-bodied reds to fresh whites and enticing rosés.

Among the most common grape varieties used in the region, we find:

    • Carignan: A traditional grape of Languedoc, Carignan gives rise to robust red wines with rich tannins, featuring aromas of black fruits and spices.

    • Grenache : Grenache is often used in blends to bring roundness and sweetness to red and rosé wines. It is also used to produce natural sweet wines, such as Banyuls and Maury.

    • Syrah : Originally from the Rhône Valley, Syrah is also widely cultivated in Languedoc-Roussillon. It produces elegant red wines, with notes of red fruits, pepper, and spices.

    • Mourvèdre : This grape variety contributes structure and complexity to the red wines of Languedoc-Roussillon, with aromas of black fruits, herbs, and leather.

    • Cinsault : Often used in rosé wine blends, Cinsault brings freshness and delicacy, with aromas of red fruits and citrus.

    • Roussanne and Marsanne : This appellation produces delicate white wines from the Chenin Blanc grape. Vouvray wines can be dry, or sweet, offering a range of aromas from citrus fruits to exotic fruits, honey, and dried fruits.

Languedoc-Roussillon also offers several renowned appellations, some of which are recognized for their quality and distinct identity:

  • AOC Corbières: Known for its red and rosé wines, this appellation offers structured and expressive wines.
  • AOC Minervois: Renowned for its elegant red wines, this appellation produces balanced wines with aromas of red fruits, spices, and the "garrigue" (the Mediterranean scrubland).
  • AOC Fitou: Famous for its powerful and complex red wines, this appellation is one of the oldest in Languedoc-Roussillon.
  • AOC Côtes du Roussillon: This appellation produces a wide variety of red, white, and rosé wines, offering fresh and fruity wines, as well as more full-bodied and concentrated ones.
