Domaine Jaume extends over 100 hectares of vines in Vinsobres, the first Cru of the Côtes du Rhône in the Drôme Provençale, where the family has been crafting characterful wines based on Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre since 1905. Anthony and Vincent Jaume, the fifth generation, carry forward a responsible viticultural approach certified High Environmental Value, combining family tradition with qualitative rigour on an exceptional terroir facing Mont Ventoux.

L'histoire du domaine

The history of Domaine Jaume began in 1905 when Henri Chauvet partnered with Baron Le Roy, a pioneering figure in the French appellation d'origine contrôlée system — a founding encounter that placed the estate among the first ranks of the AOC Côtes-du-Rhône from 1937 onwards. Pierre Jaume, Henri Chauvet's son-in-law, provided the driving force behind the vineyard's development in the following years, laying the foundations for an operation that would truly flourish under his son Claude, who raised the estate to prominence among the great names of the Rhône Valley in the 1960s. In 1980, Pascal and Richard, Claude's sons, took over the reins and in 2005 celebrated the estate's centenary — a century of unbroken transmission and loyalty to the Vinsobres terroir. Today, Anthony and Vincent, members of the fifth generation, bring a modern touch to this prestigious lineage, continuing with steadfast conviction the work of their forebears.

Le terroir

The vineyard extends over 100 hectares in Vinsobres, nestled at the edge of the Pre-Alps at an average altitude of 300 metres, facing the majestic Mont Ventoux. Two major terroirs structure the estate: Le Coteau, at 300 metres altitude, rests on clay-limestone soils composed of more or less deep limestone strata and irregular stoniness, conferring power and structure to the wines; Les Collines, rising between 350 and 470 metres, form a rugged relief traversed by two large valleys, with soils composed in equal parts of clay, sand and silt, bringing finesse, freshness and aromatic elegance. The climate, benefiting from the Pontias — an easterly morning wind that cleanses the vineyard — offers ideal conditions for the ripening of Rhône grape varieties: Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Carignan for reds; Grenache Blanc, Marsanne, Roussanne, Clairette and Viognier for whites. For over 25 years, the estate has practiced responsible viticulture through integrated pest management, inscribed in the Vinéa Natura charter and certified High Environmental Value, favouring natural organic inputs, cover cropping, traditional ploughing and respect for natural cycles.

Les vins

The Domaine Jaume range is built around the Côtes du Rhône, Côtes du Rhône Villages and Vinsobres appellations, with forays into Gigondas and Crozes-Hermitage. In Vinsobres, the estate's flagship appellation, the cuvées reveal the richness of the terroir: Référence Rouge, a blend of Syrah (50%), Grenache (40%) and Mourvèdre (10%) from 45-year-old vines, aged 12 months in barrels, offers aromatic power and silky tannins; Altitude 420, from the Les Collines terroir at 450 metres altitude, combines Grenache (60%) and Syrah (40%) in an ample, fresh style with aromas of jammy red fruits and spices; Vinéa Natura, a cuvée without added sulphites, embodies the pure expression of terroir and craftsmanship in respect of nature. The Côtes du Rhône, dominated by Grenache (85%) and Syrah (15%), offer pleasure wines, fresh and charming, with a balanced palate focused on fruit and melted tannins. The house style favours freshness, finesse of tannins and aromatic complexity combining red fruits, sweet spices and garrigue notes, with ageing potential varying according to cuvée.

Le vigneron

Anthony and Vincent Jaume today represent the fifth generation of a family of winegrowers rooted in Vinsobres since 1905. Trained alongside their fathers Pascal and Richard, who led the estate for four decades from the 1980s onwards, they embody an approach combining respect for family tradition with a modern vision of viticulture. Their commitment is reflected in High Environmental Value certification and rigorous application of the Vinéa Natura charter, with a deep conviction that the soil is not merely a support but a living environment and source of energy. This fifth generation perpetuates a century-old expertise while bringing a contemporary touch to vineyard management, in continuity with a history marked by the founding encounter between Henri Chauvet and Baron Le Roy, pioneers of the AOC in France.
