Mauro Molino is a family estate based in La Morra, in the heart of Piedmont's Barolo appellation, where it has crafted refined wines since 1982. Across 18 hectares planted on prestigious crus such as Conca, Bricco Luciani and La Serra, siblings Matteo and Martina Molino carry forward the legacy of their father Mauro, a graduate of Alba's Oenology School. Their wines, crafted from Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto grown on calcareous clay soils, embody La Morra's hallmark elegance, with silky tannins and vibrant aromatics.

L'histoire du domaine

The Molino family story begins in 1953, when Giuseppe Molino acquired the first family vineyards in the Annunziata hamlet of La Morra, near the ancient abbey of San Martino di Marcenasco. His son Mauro, who graduated from Alba's Oenology School in 1973, chose to hone his craft in Emilia Romagna for five years, working at the CIV wine group in Modena. In 1979, following Giuseppe's passing, Mauro returned to the Langhe to reclaim the family vineyards and establish his own winery, whilst also consulting for local agricultural associations. The year 1982 marked the official birth of the estate, with the first bottling of Barolo Conca, sourced from the family's famed conch-shaped parcel. Throughout the 1990s, Mauro pursued strategic acquisitions, notably in Berri on La Morra's western slope, expanding the estate to its current 18 hectares. In 2003, his son Matteo joined after completing the same training in Alba, followed in 2008 by his younger daughter Martina, who took charge of the estate's commercial and communications operations.

Le terroir

Mauro Molino extends across 18 hectares distributed between La Morra and a parcel in Monforte d'Alba, in the heart of the Barolo zone. Half the surface is devoted to Nebbiolo for Barolo, the remainder planted to Barbera d'Alba, Dolcetto and a small production of Chardonnay. The vines are rooted in calcareous clay soils rich in marl and sand, typical of La Morra, which lend the wines their hallmark floral elegance and silky tannins characteristic of the appellation's western slope. The estate's emblematic crus — Conca (at 250 metres altitude, south-southeast exposure), Bricco Luciani (270 metres, southeast, limestone soils with 20-30% sand) and La Serra (between 370 and 400 metres, south-southeast) — each express a distinct facet of this exceptional terroir. The domaine's philosophy rests on sustainable viticulture: integrated pest control, natural grass cover between rows to encourage deep rooting, exclusively organic fertilisation, and minimal SO2 additions in the cellar. Vinifications favour spontaneous fermentations in stainless steel tanks, followed by 18 to 24 months' ageing in lightly toasted or untoasted French oak barrels, with new wood contribution limited to 10%.

Les vins

The Mauro Molino range is built around Piedmont's native varieties, with a predominance of Nebbiolo expressed in several interpretations. The classic Barolo DOCG, an assemblage from three vineyards (Annunziata and Berri in La Morra, Perno in Monforte), constitutes the estate's calling card: an elegant wine with the powdery, breezy tannins typical of La Morra, displaying citrusy tension and mouthwatering freshness. The single-vineyard crus then reveal the terroir's diversity: Barolo Conca, sourced from 0.45 hectares planted with 10% Nebbiolo Rosé, offers a coating texture, aromas of spiced red fruits and cocoa, with a characteristic note of peppermint; Barolo Bricco Luciani embodies La Morra's femininity and floral elegance; Barolo La Serra, at higher altitude, expresses vivid freshness and cassis notes. To these four Barolos are added a Barolo Anniversario in exceptional vintages, a Langhe Nebbiolo sourced mainly from Roero, and since 2025, a first Barbaresco Giacosa produced in Treiso. The range is completed by a Barbera d'Alba, a Dolcetto d'Alba from Dogliani, a Roero Arneis and a Leradici cuvée, Barbera d'Asti sourced from grandfather Giuseppe's native territory in Costigliole d'Asti. The Molino style privileges aromaticity, finesse and elegance, with wines capable of charming in their youth whilst possessing fine ageing potential.

Le vigneron

Matteo and Martina Molino form the sibling duo that now steers the family estate, embodying both continuity and renewal of a vision passed down by their father Mauro Molino. Matteo, the elder, joined the business in 2003 after completing oenology training at Alba's School, following in his father's footsteps. Passionate about viticulture and winemaking since childhood, he oversees production and vineyard management, bringing a modern and innovative approach that enhances each terroir's identity whilst placing environmental sustainability at the heart of his concerns. At his side, Martina, also a graduate of Alba's School, took charge of the estate's commercial and communications operations in 2008, helping to establish the Mauro Molino name in international markets. Together, they perpetuate their father's legacy with passion and rigour, exploring new projects — such as the first Barbaresco released in 2025 or the Leradici cuvée in Costigliole d'Asti, a tribute to their family roots — whilst preserving the authenticity and grace characteristic of La Morra wines. Their work, consistently praised by international critics, bears witness to an unwavering commitment to quality and respect for the land.
