Owned by the Gillet-Queyrens family for five generations, Château Grand Peyruchet extends over 30 hectares between Loupiac and Omet in the Bordeaux region. Certified Organic since 2022, the estate produces a diverse range of wines — Loupiac sweet whites, dry whites, reds, rosés and pétillant naturels — under the stewardship of brothers Romain and Julien Queyrens, who uphold an artisanal, terroir-driven approach rooted in tradition.

L'histoire du domaine

Château Grand Peyruchet has been shaped over five generations by the Gillet-Queyrens family, winegrowers in Loupiac for more than a century. The estate's modern trajectory began in the mid-20th century with Henri and Suzette Gillet, the third generation, who from the 1950s through the 1980s brought the vineyard to maturity and established the reputation of Peyruchet wines beyond the local market. Their daughter Martine and her husband Bernard Queyrens took over in the 1980s, investing heavily in both the family home and the winery, equipping the cellars with modern installations while preserving traditional vineyard practices. In the 2000s, Bernard and Martine's sons, Romain and Julien, joined the family business, representing the fifth generation at the helm. Together, they founded Vignobles Gillet Queyrens, expanded the estate's reach to new markets, and initiated organic conversion in 2019 — achieving full certification in 2022. This turning point reflects the estate's commitment to honouring tradition while embracing a forward-looking vision rooted in environmental stewardship.

Le terroir

Located on the right bank of the Garonne, 40 kilometres south of Bordeaux, the Château Grand Peyruchet vineyard extends over 30 hectares divided into two distinct blocks, each contributing its own character. The first, on the heights of Loupiac, lies on clay-limestone soils overlooking the Garonne valley and benefits from an ideal microclimate for producing sweet wines: morning mists followed by warm, sunny afternoons encourage the development of noble rot, the precious fungus that concentrates sugars and aromas within the berries. The second block, in the commune of Omet, with south-southwest exposure, offers gravelly-clay terroirs well suited to reds, rosés, dry whites and medium-sweet whites. The average vine age reaches 40 years for the Sémillon and Sauvignon parcels, and 25 years for the reds, ensuring remarkable aromatic depth. Certified Organic since 2022, the estate was previously awarded High Environmental Value Level 3 certification in 2017 and AREA (Environmentally Responsible Agriculture in Aquitaine). The family cultivates the soils deeply, encourages cover crops between the rows, and uses nettle, horsetail and comfrey teas as part of meticulous manual care, ensuring deep root systems and an authentic expression of terroir.

Les vins

The range at Château Grand Peyruchet reflects the richness and diversity of the Loupiac and Omet terroirs, with a portfolio of wines that deliberately breaks away from the traditional codes of Bordeaux. At the top of the range, Château Grand Peyruchet Loupiac, crafted from a blend dominated by Sémillon (90%) complemented by Sauvignon (10%), reveals aromas of candied fruits, apricot, honey and noble rot, with a structure that is at once ample, round and vibrant, capable of evolving gracefully over a decade. The wine is aged in underground vats and oak and acacia barrels, lending complexity and balance. Alongside this emblematic sweet wine, the estate also produces Jour de Pey (dry white), Apeyro Moelleux (Bordeaux Supérieur white), Mamie Pey son rouge (Cadillac Côtes de Bordeaux), Marin Bout-en-Grains (IGP Atlantique), EnigmatiQ (dry white and red), and Lou Pey Nat, a pétillant naturel that embodies the uninhibited, modern spirit of the new generation. The house style is built on freshness, aromatic finesse, and a clear commitment to producing generous wines while preserving the elegance and tension characteristic of the region.

Le vigneron

Romain and Julien Queyrens represent the fifth generation at the helm of Château Grand Peyruchet, upholding the family legacy with conviction while bringing a spirit of modernity, authenticity and environmental commitment. Trained alongside their father Bernard and guided by a forward-looking vision, the two brothers have chosen an artisanal and sustainable approach to viticulture, initiating organic conversion in 2019 — completed across the entire estate in 2022. Their philosophy rests on three pillars: respect for heritage, expression of terroir, and exchange rooted in genuine human connection. Romain and Julien cultivate their 30 hectares with constant attention, prioritising manual vineyard work, cover cropping, and the use of natural preparations (nettle, horsetail and comfrey teas). They have also planted a parcel of Alvarinho, reflecting their curiosity and openness to experimentation. Their range of wines — dubbed "Les Irréductibles" (The Unyielding Ones) — embodies this uninhibited, humorous spirit, with original cuvées that depart from classic Bordeaux codes while preserving freshness, finesse and generosity. Warm, inventive and deeply attached to their land, Romain and Julien Queyrens embody a new generation of Bordeaux winemakers, conveying a message of conviviality and respect in every bottle.
