Maison Stephan

Maison Stéphan, established in Tupin-et-Semons in the Côte-Rôtie appellation, is one of the pioneering natural wine estates in the Northern Rhône Valley. Founded in 1991 by Jean-Michel Stéphan, it now covers 10 hectares of vineyards spread between the Côte-Rôtie appellation (5 hectares) and parcels classified as Vin de France. The estate's emblematic grape varieties — Serine, Syrah, and Viognier — yield wines of exceptional purity and freshness, crafted without any additives since 1997. Jean-Michel Stéphan, joined by his son Romain in 2017 and Dorian in 2023, perpetuates a radical and exacting vision of the Rhône terroir, establishing the estate as a reference within its appellation.

The Côteaux de Bassenon 2020 from Maison Stéphan embodies the excellence of Côte-Rôtie in its purest form. An atypical blend of 40% Syrah, 40% Sérine (ancestral clone of Syrah) and 20% Viognier, this characterful red wine originates from very old vines planted between 1896 and 1989, located in the southern part of the appellation in the commune of Tupin-et-Semons. Jean-Michel Stéphan, pioneer of natural wine in the northern Rhône Valley, produces a Côte-Rôtie with no added sulphur, vinified and aged according to Jules Chauvet's principles.
