Established in 2005, Château Vénus is an 8-hectare family estate located in Illats, in the heart of the Graves appellation. Founded by Emmanuelle and Bertrand Amart, both from winemaking families, the estate crafts red wines predominantly from Merlot and Cabernet Franc, alongside whites from Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc. The name Venus pays tribute to the patron goddess of tillage, symbolising the finesse and elegance that define the property's wines, matured in a modern, eco-responsible cellar.

L'histoire du domaine

The story of Château Vénus begins in 2005, when Emmanuelle and Bertrand Amart, both from multi-generational winemaking families, acquired 7.5 hectares of vines in the commune of Illats, on a magnificent Graves terroir. Bertrand, a graduate in viticulture and oenology, brought solid technical mastery of vineyard management and winemaking, while Emmanuelle, trained in wine commerce, contributed to marketing and hospitality. The choice of the name Venus was far from random: it refers to the patron goddess of tillage, embodying finesse, elegance and beauty — qualities that perfectly encapsulate the estate's philosophy. In 2012, the property expanded to nearly 8.8 hectares. Two years later, in 2014, the château built modern, eco-friendly facilities, marking a pivotal step in its quest for excellence and environmental stewardship. In 2016, Bertrand, a passionate pilot, launched a unique activity in Gironde: scenic flights over the Bordeaux vineyards, an innovation recognised in 2018 with a Best Of Wine Tourism award. Today, Château Vénus continues its commitment to responsible viticulture and wines of character.

Le terroir

Château Vénus covers 8 hectares in Illats, south of Bordeaux, on a typical Graves terroir composed of gravelly-sandy soils and deep gravels. This geological composition, inherited from the prehistoric sea's retreat which left a bed of gravels along the Garonne, provides exceptional natural drainage and optimal grape ripening. The red vineyard comprises Merlot (70%) and Cabernet Franc (30%), while the white vineyard blends Sémillon (80%) and Sauvignon Blanc (20%). Since its creation, the estate has worked with respect for the environment: no chemical herbicides are used on the property, soils are worked traditionally using the four ploughings method, and biodynamic green manures are sown between the rows. Leaf-thinning, debudding and manual green harvesting complete this rigorous approach. The modern, eco-responsible cellar limits water and energy consumption. Vinification takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks after cold maceration, and ageing occurs in barrels and tanks for 12 to 18 months depending on the cuvée.

Les vins

The Château Vénus range comprises both red and white wines, all in the Graves appellation. The reds form the core of production: the classic Château Vénus rouge, aged 12 months in barrels and stainless steel tanks, offers a bright ruby colour, a fruity nose and soft, silky tannins, with 10 years' ageing potential. The Sélection Parcellaire cuvée, from a rigorous selection and aged 12 months in new barrels and one-wine barrels, stands out with its intense nose of fruit and melted woody notes, its powerful, creamy palate, and 15 years' keeping potential. At the top of the range, the Prestige cuvée, vinified entirely in 400-litre barrels and aged 18 months, reveals a deep purple robe, an expressive nose of very ripe red fruits, and an ample, powerful and intense palate of more than 20 caudalies, with smooth yet powerful tannins. Voted best wine of Graves and Pessac-Léognan by Revue des Vins de France, this cuvée has ageing potential exceeding 25 years. The whites, vinified in 400-litre barrels and aged 6 months in tanks, express powerful citrus aromas, floral notes, pineapple and white peach, with beautiful freshness and remarkable balance.

Trained in wine commerce, Emmanuelle has from the outset brought a commercial and relational vision essential to the property's reputation. Passionate about vines and wine, from a family of winegrowers for several generations, she has successfully combined modernity with respect for tradition in an approach that places terroir and the environment at the heart of every decision. Her commitment is reflected in sustainable viticulture, without chemical herbicides, and a constant search for balance between finesse and character in the wines produced. Welcoming and passionate, Emmanuelle perpetuates the spirit of innovation and excellence that has made Château Vénus renowned in the Graves appellation.
