Domaine Deiss Marcel

Domaine Marcel Deiss, located in Bergheim at the heart of Alsace, stands as one of the region's absolute references. Founded in 1947, the estate cultivates 32 hectares under biodynamic viticulture and distinguishes itself through the ancestral practice of complantation — the art of blending up to 13 Alsatian grape varieties in a single parcel to reveal the pure expression of terroir. Led by Mathieu Deiss, supported by his father Jean-Michel, the domaine produces wines of exceptional complexity and depth, from three Grands Crus (Altenberg de Bergheim, Schoenenbourg, Mambourg) and nine self-proclaimed Premiers Crus.

The Langenberg 2012 from Domaine Marcel Deiss embodies the Alsatian philosophy of complantation, where Riesling, Pinot Gris, Muscat, Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc coexist on a granite terroir in Alsace. Fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged on lees in old foudres, this dry wine expresses with precision the crystalline minerality and saline tension of the Saint-Hippolyte slope. Rated 93 pts by James Suckling and 91 pts by Wine Advocate, this 2012 vintage illustrates Jean-Michel Deiss's radical approach: a wine of place above all, where terroir prevails over grape variety.
